June 14 marks the birthday of the United States Army, which was founded in 1775 and National Flag Day, which was originally conceived in 1885 and made official on August 3, 1949 when President Truman signed an Act of Congress. At Witty Things, we are blessed to be a part of a community that celebrates both. The love of both is evident in nearby Destin, Fl where the World’s Largest Painted American Flag is located. At Witty Things we are very thankful for the police and emergency responders out there. On this year’s National Thank a Police Officer Day, we say Thank You!
On this day in 1798, Congress reestablished the USMC by passing the “Act for establishing and organizing a Marine Corps”, signed by President John Adams. The corps acquired some leftover uniforms, blue with red trim; the forerunners of the “Dress Blues” still worn today. At Witty Things, we support the Marines and one way we show that support is by wearing red on Fridays.
